Parris Island, SC – The American Junior Golf Association is proud to announce a new open tournament that will be hosted at The Legends GC at Marine Corps Recruit Depot Parris Island. The four-day event will bring 96 juniors from around the world to South Carolina.

The AJGA Junior at Parris Island is one of six AJGA events being held in the state of South Carolina in 2023. The Legends GC at Parris Island reopened in 2000 after extensive renovations of the 1947 Fred Findley designed course and it is an inspiring one-of-a-kind golf experience that winds its way along salt marsh wetlands and deep-water creeks. The course’s rich history and challenging layout made it an obvious choice to be honored as the South Carolina Golf Association Club of the Year in 2022.

“It is an honor for the Legends GC at Parris Island to host a 2023 American Junior Golf Association competition. The course is in great condition and ready for the high-level junior competitors playing in the field,” Andy Hinson, PGA Director of Golf said. “The AJGA’s mentorship efforts are unique and complementary with the Marine Corps’ dedication to developing America’s talented young men and women. It’s going to be an exciting competition!” Marine Corps Recruit Depot Parris Island – We Make Marines.

AJGA Open tournaments make up the largest part of the AJGA schedule. All members may submit tournament applications to Open tournaments. All AJGA Open tournaments are filled using the AJGA’s Performance Based Entry system.

The AJGA Junior at Parris Island runs June 5th through 8th at The Legends GC at Parris Island. The official practice round and Junior-Am tournament will be held June 5th with the competitive tournament rounds following on the 6th through 8th.

“We are extremely excited to be bringing an event to The Legends GC at Parris Island for the first time,” Houston Denney, AJGA Southeast Regional Director, said. “Both the AJGA and Marine Corps are dedicated to investing our resources into the next generation of young men and women, and we look forward to growing this into a must-play event on our schedule for years to come.”

The AJGA’s Junior-Am is modeled after the PGA TOUR’s Pro-Am in which a junior is paired with three amateurs for a round of golf and networking with the local community.

The AJGA is looking for local supporters to help increase the charitable impact associated with the AJGA Junior at Parris Island. A portion of the proceeds will be donated to The Beaufort Charities organization. If you are interested in sponsoring, please contact Southeast Regional Director, Houston Denney at hdenney@ajga.org.
