About Army Navy Country Club
Army Navy Country Club is a 54-hole country club that was established in the Virginia suburbs of our nation’s capital in 1924. ANCC has a 27-hole campus located in Arlington, Virginia and a 27-hole campus located in Fairfax Virginia.
The PING Junior Solheim Cup will be held at the Arlington facility. The Arlington Courses wander through a property that includes huge elevation changes and natural spring fed creeks. In 1861, President Lincoln picked the property as it commanded some of the highest points in the region on which to locate Ft. Richardson. The civil war fort was an artillery outpost and a southern defense for the city of Washington. The parapets and bunkers surrounding Fort Richardson remain and are part of the 9th green complex today on the red course. The Club began purchasing land in Arlington, Virginia in 1925. The first nine golf holes opened in September 1928 and a second nine the following summer. This 18-hole Richard Newman designed layout was replaced in the late 1930's on the same site by a 27-hole Herbert Strong designed course.
Since its groundbreaking ceremony at the Arlington site on August 5, 1927, members have included Major General John A. Lejeune, USMC; Admiral Chester W. Nimitz, USN; General Omar Bradley, USA; and Presidents Dwight D. Eisenhower, John F. Kennedy, Lyndon B. Johnson, Richard M. Nixon, and William J. Clinton and Barack Obama.
