Among the natives of Pekin, Illinois is D.A. Points, a 25-year professional golfer who has accomplished a lot throughout his career, including three PGA TOUR wins.
For the past seven years, Points has hosted the Renewal by Andersen Junior Open at Pekin Country Club, a course where he grew up on the 17th hole of. Recalling his own junior golf days, he stated it is a “dream come true” to see his name on an AJGA tournament.
“[Hosting] was something that I as a junior thought, ‘oh, maybe someday I could host my own event, and now it’s here.”
Points knows the value of the game, and said it “helps shape” most professionals in their careers. With 25 years of professional golf experience, Points gives back to junior golf in an effort to help shape the next generation.
“Not just golfers, but as people. Learning the rules and etiquette... what you want to do is help foster that with new and upcoming kids. So being a part of junior golf and the AJGA is the best way to grow the game.”
Looking towards the future, Points searches for ways in which his tournament can continue to grow. “I always hope that we can add some little extra benefits for the players when they come,” he said. “Whether it’s range signs or whatever it is, just different things to make this event more special each year.”
