West Point, Miss. - After the second round of competition, Logan Reilly of Lovettsville, Virginia, and Jon Ed Steed of Enterprise, Alabama, lead at 10-under-par 134 through 36 holes.
Conditions at Old Waverly were tougher during the second round but that didn't stop players from going low. The wind kicked up in the afternoon leading to a few difficult holes but overall the field built on a strong first round with 39 players shooting under par for the tournament.
This is the fourth playing of the Team TaylorMade Invitational and features some of the most talented junior golfers in the world. The event is supported by AJGA Global Sponsor TaylorMade Golf and moves annually to different venues throughout the country.
For the second-straight round, Reilly found himself in the lead after 18 holes. He started his round on No. 10 and put together a bogey-free first nine holes which included two birdies. His second nine was a little tougher with three birdies and three bogeys, including a bogey to close out the round on No. 9.
If you have wedges in your hand there's no pin you shouldn't go after...I think that's the key if you get the opportunity to take advantage of the shorter holes.
Reilly came into the event at No. 29 in the Rolex AJGA Rankings. The Auburn University verbal commit is playing in his second Invitational of 2024 after a top-10 finish at the AJGA Simplify Boys Championship at Carlton Woods in February. He also has two AJGA wins during his junior golf career.
Steed overcame a double bogey on No. 5 to card a 4-under-par 68 during the second round. He carded three birdies on the front and another three on the back to put him in a tie for first heading to the final round.
I didn’t have high expectations coming in this week, but it feels really good to have a chance at winning this thing tomorrow.
Steed came into the event at No. 97 in the Rolex AJGA Rankings. The 2022 Rolex Junior All-American is verbally committed to Vanderbilt University and comes into the event off a top-10 finish at the AJGA Junior at Innisbrook in March. He has one AJGA win which came at the AJGA Atlanta Classic presented by UHY in 2022.
In third place is Carson Bertagnole of Pinehurst, North Carolina, at 9-under-par 135 for the tournament.
Bertagnole was impressive through his first nine holes after starting the day on No. 10. He carded six birdies and a bogey en route to making the turn at 5-under on the day. His second nine holes were less eventful, but he added two more birdies and a bogey to finish the day at 6-under-par 66.
Final-round tee times begin Monday at 8 a.m. off Nos. 1 and 10.
