PONTE VEDRA BEACH, Florida - Miles Russell of Jacksonville Beach, Florida, wins the 19th edition of The Junior PLAYERS Championship presented by Rolex and becomes the first two-time winner of the event.
The recent Florida State University commit claimed the title in his third The Junior PLAYERS Championship start. He finished with three rounds of 68-69-70.
It was a great day and week, a lot of fun. it's probably the better ones that we play, if not the best. Especially with it being in my hometown, it is pretty cool.
Russell began the round with a two-stroke lead over Nicholas Logis of Austin, Texas, after the two were tied heading into the second round. Russell stayed steady throughout the final round, as he birdied the par-5 No. 2 and par-3 No. 8 on the front nine. He made a crucial birdie on the iconic par-3 No.17, which gave him a one-stroke lead over Bailey Sutter of Cullman, Alabama, as he headed into the final hole.
Meanwhile, two groups back, Sutter surged up the leaderboard. After starting the day at even-par, he went 3-under on the front nine and added an impressive back-nine charge that included five birdies, three of them coming consecutively on Nos. 11–13. That run moved him into a tie with Russell at 8-under-par as he reached No. 18. Sutter’s only bogey of the day came on the final hole where he made bogey to finish at 7-under-par 65.
With a one-stroke lead over Sutter heading into No. 18, Russell closed with a par, ending the round with a great final putt to secure the win.
