Will Lowery Junior Championship honored with 2024 Media Award

AJGA recognizes Will Lowery Junior Championship for excellence in media and storytelling
Will Lowery with Media Award

The Will Lowery Junior Championship has been honored with the American Junior Golf Association’s 2024 Media Award, a prestigious recognition that highlights the tournament’s outstanding coverage and storytelling in junior golf.

The AJGA Media Award celebrates tournaments that go beyond competition, creating meaningful content that engages audiences and emphasizes the importance of junior golf. The Will Lowery Junior Championship exemplified this through comprehensive coverage, compelling player stories and social media engagement that resonated throughout the golf community.

Lowery, known for his unorthodox path to professional golf, has become a leading voice in growing the game. From his days competing with a cross-handed grip to his work as a media personality, he has championed opportunities for underrepresented players. His involvement in the tournament not only elevated the event’s exposure but also provided the juniors with an inspiring figure to look up to.

The 2024 tournament marked the second edition of the Will Lowery Junior Championship at Carolina Trace Country Club in Sanford, North Carolina. A significant factor in the event’s success was the presence and influence of Will Lowery, who is one of golf's most impactful media personalities. Lowery, who was on-site at the tournament every round, brought his unique perspective and passion to the event.

Lowery hosted a cross-handed challenge during the practice round, giving juniors an opportunity to interact with him in a fun and engaging way. Throughout the tournament, a DJ on the starting tee played walk-out songs for the juniors. The four-day event culminated with Lowery handing out trophies and taking photos with the top finishers at the awards ceremony, making it a truly memorable week for all involved.

Champions of the event were Patmon Malcom (-7) of Alpharetta, Georgia and Michelle Xing (-8) of Richmond Hill, Ontario, Canada. Social content throughout the week was posted with the hashtag #WillLoweryJr on Instagam, TikTok and X.

The event returned to Carolina Trace Country Club for its third year on March 27-30, 2025, continuing to build on its success. Lowery was on-site once again, bringing the same energy and passion that helped the tournament earn the AJGA's Media Award. He interacted with players throughout the event and created an engaging and fun atmosphere for all the juniors. Champions of the event were Lucas Gimenez (-1) of Jacksonville, Florida and Vidhi Lakhawala (-11) of Kendall Park, New Jersey. Will Lowery's ongoing commitment to the tournament further solidified its reputation as a standout event on the AJGA's schedule.
