Avery McCrery of Wilmington, Delaware, leads the 2025 Mizuho Americas Open after the first round with a stableford score of 40. Scoring for stableford is as follows:
McCrery opened her round with a bogey on the par-4 No. 1, earning one point. She quickly recovered with three straight pars followed by a birdie on the par-4 No. 5. After another bogey on the par-5 No. 6, McCrery caught fire with a birdie on No. 7 and an eagle on the par-5 No. 8. She added a string of pars on the back nine and capped off her round with a birdie on the par-5 No. 13 to finish atop the leaderboard from the morning wave. Her 40-point total set the mark for 12 afternoon players to chase.
"I just tried to really stay in the moment today and go shot by shot. Basically just simplify and not think too much about anything and keep it to just golf. After my eagle on No. 8, I was obviously extremely happy."
McCrery, currently ranked No. 3 in the Rolex AJGA Rankings, has two AJGA victories to her name. A two-time Rolex Junior All-American, she was a member of the 2024 United States PING Junior Solheim Cup team and has signed a National Letter of Intent to play at Duke University.
Two players share a tie for second place three points back of McCrery. Asterisk Talley of Chowchilla, California, and Donina Zhou of Trabuco Canyon, California, share the honor with 37 points each. Both players teed off in the morning alongside the leader. Talley carded five birdies, including three consecutive birdies on Nos. 15, 16 and 17. Zhou also recorded five birdies with back-to-back birdies on Nos. 7 and 8 and Nos. 14 and 15.
Defending champion Gianna Clemente of Estero, Florida, is tied for fourth after a solid round featuring four birdies. A double bogey on the par-4 No. 12 and consecutive bogeys on holes 15 and 16 held her back slightly but kept her within striking distance. Clemente is tied with Kinsley Ni of Los Angeles, California, and Lily Peng of San Ramon, California.
