Flagstaff, AZ - Day two of the 35th Wyndham Cup ends in the East's favor, leading 15.5 to 14.5.
In the morning foursomes, the West team takes the lead after being tied following day one.
The most dominate morning round for the West was contested by Kelly Zhang of Hillsborough, California, and Amber Lee of Alta Loma, California. The West duo was paired against Vidhi Lakhawala of Kendall Park, New Jersey and Jodie Han of Lewis Center, Ohio. Zhang and Lee claimed eight holes to win the match 7&5 and put up the first point of the day by the West team.
Full results of the West team's morning foursome wins were as follows:
- Natalie Yen of West Linn, Oregon, and Angela Zhang of Bellevue, Washington, won 5&4 over Ryleigh Knaub of Debary, Florida, and Kayla Bryant of Boca Raton, Florida
- Chase Hughes of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, and Evan Liu of Rancho Santa Fe, California, won 1 up against Benjamin Baker of Broadlands, Virginia, and Tyler Mawhinney of Fleming Island, Florida
- Sterling Hurd of Austin, Texas, and Drake Harvey of Las Vegas, Nevada, won 3&2 over Mason Howell of Thomasville, Georgia, and Hamilton Coleman of Augusta, Georgia
The East team's morning foursome wins were as follows:
- Elizabeth Rudisill of Charlotte, North Carolina, and Sofia Cherif Essakali of Orlando, Florida won 2&1 against Asia Young of Bend, Oregon and Clairey Lin of Palos Verdes, California
- Jessy Huebner of Port St Lucie, Florida, and Giuseppe Puebla of Royal Palm Beach, Florida, won 5&4 against Asher Vargas of Spring, Texas and Luke Colton of Frisco, Texas
- Pennson Badgett of Pilot Mountain, North Carolina and Tyler Watts of Huntsville, Alabama won 4&3 against Joshua Kim of Danville, California and Edan Cui of Atherton, California
Three matches tied giving both teams each a point and a half.
In the afternoon mixed foursomes, the East claimed three victories, while the West secured one win and one match ended in a tie—giving the East a one-point lead heading into the final day.
The West earned its lone win in the first match of the afternoon. Chase Hughes and Amber Lee took the lead on No. 9, and although the East's Hamilton Coleman and Jodie Han put up a strong fight, the West duo closed out the match 2&1 on No. 17.
The second match swung in favor of the East. After the first two holes were tied, Giuseppe Puebla and Vidhi Lakhawala took the lead on No. 3 and never looked back. They maintained a 2-up or better advantage before securing a 3&1 win on No. 17 over the West’s Sterling Hurd and Kelly Zhang.
The third match was the only one of the session to end in a tie. The East’s Willie Gordon and Ryleigh Knaub led for eight holes, while the West’s Edan Cui and Alice Zhao held the lead for two. The closely contested match went the distance, finishing all square on No. 18.
The fourth match added another point to the East’s tally. Tyler Mawhinney and Kathryn Ha took control on No. 5 after tying the first four holes against the West’s Ronin Banerjee and Asia Young. They never trailed from that point on and clinched the match decisively, 7&5, on No. 13.
In the final match of the day, the West jumped out to an early lead before the East took control on No. 6. After trading momentum mid-round, the East’s Tyler Watts and Sofia Cherif Essakali pulled ahead for good on No. 12 and went on to win 3&2 over Brooks Simmons and Lily Peng.
Since 1990, the Wyndham Cup has brought together 40 of the country’s top junior golfers (20 males and 20 females) in an East versus West team match play tournament. In addition to featuring some of the world’s best junior golfers annually, the Wyndham Cup is known for its iconic host venues. A list that features Old Sandwich Golf Club, Mayacama Golf Club, The Stanwich Club, Arnold Palmer’s Bay Hill Club & Lodge, and Forest Highlands Golf Club - Canyon Course.
This is the second time in the event's history that Forest Highlands Golf Club - Canyon Course is hosting the Wyndham Cup, previously known as the Canon Cup, which they hosted in 2009.
After day two, the East leads the West 15.5 to 14.5. The East team is looking to retain the cup and take their first Wyndham Cup victory at the Forest Highlands Golf Club - Canyon Course.
Day three of competition will feature 20 singles matches. Morning tee times begin at 7:30 a.m. and run through 10:40 a.m. off No. 1 at Forest Highlands Golf Club - Canyon Course in Flagstaff, Arizona.
