Stanford, CA - Asterisk Talley of Chowchilla, California, holds the lead after the second round of The Fortinet Stanford Invitational hosted by Rose Zhang. Talley sits at 8-under-par 134 with 18 holes remaining.
Talley opened the day with a five shot lead after the first round. Starting on the par-4 No. 10, Talley faced some trouble after making her first bogey of the tournament in her opening hole. She carded a birdie on the par-5 No. 12 to bounce back before making a second bogey on the par-4 No. 15. Talley bounced back again by making a second birdie on the par-5 No. 16. After the turn, Talley made her third and final birdie of the day on the par-5 No. 7, en route to a bogey-free back nine. Talley is No. 2 in the Rolex AJGA Rankings and is looking to defend her title at this event.
"Can't really ask for much better, I'm having fun out here playing with friends. Today was a pretty good day and I think tomorrow will be a great one."
Following Talley, Rina Kawasaki of Palos Verdes Estates, California, is in second place after a 1-under-par 70 in the second round. She currently sits at 4-under-par 138 in total and trails Talley by four strokes. On the front nine, Kawasaki started off blazing with back to back birdies on the par-5 No. 1 and par-4 No. 2. She made a third birdie on the par-5 No. 7 to balance the two bogeys she made on the front nine. On the back nine, Kawasaki birdied two more holes finish the day in solo second. Kawasaki is currently ranked No. 33 in the Rolex AJGA Rankings and is seeking her first Invitational win.
In third, Honorine Ferry of Flower Mound, Texas, is five shots behind the lead with a total score of 3-under-par 139. Ferry had a colorful scorecard with six birdies and five bogeys to finish the day with a 1-under-par 70. Ferry is currently ranked No. 5 in the Rolex AJGA Rankings.
Nikki Oh of Torrance, California, Amber Lee of San Diego, California, and Kelly Zhang of Hillsborough, California, round out the top-five in the leaderboard all tied for fourth place at 2-under-par 140.
