West Caldwell, N.J. - The second round of the Mizuho Americas Open tested the entire field, as difficult hole locations combined with an on-again, off-again rainy day created demanding conditions. On the final day before competing alongside LPGA professionals, the 24 AJGA juniors rose to the challenge and battled through the adversity.

Overnight leader Amelie Zalsman of St. Petersburg, Florida, extended her lead to seven points following the second round. Beginning her day on the par-4 10th, Zalsman opened with two pars before recording a bogey on the par-4 12th and a birdie on the par-5 13th. She added another birdie on the par-3 16th but dropped a shot with a bogey on the par-4 18th to finish her first nine. The Wake Forest commit strengthened her position on the back nine, tallying three birdies and six pars. With a total of 78 points, Zalsman leads the AJGA field heading into the weekend.

"I'm just so excited, also just to play in front of crowds again. I love playing in front of people. And then playing with the pros will be such a great experience and definitely can learn a few things from them."

The University of Oregon commit finished on a high note, closing with back-to-back birdies on the par-5 8th and par-4 9th to end the day in solo second at 71 points.

Defending champion Aphrodite Deng of Short Hills, New Jersey, sits in solo third with 70 points after carding three birdies and ten pars.
