The Northern Neck Junior All-Star at Indian Creek has been named the American Junior Golf Association’s 2025 Junior All-Star of the Year, recognizing the tournament’s outstanding first-year success, strong community support and commitment to creating a memorable experience for junior golfers while also generating an impactful amount of charitable proceeds.

Hosted at Indian Creek Yacht and Country Club, the tournament made an immediate impact in its debut year. The tournament raised more than $93,000, with over $50,000 in net proceeds supporting a variety of local charities and community initiatives, including the Boys & Girls Club and several area high schools.

“The Northern Neck Junior All-Star at Indian Creek has set a high standard for AJGA Junior All-Star events. In its debut year, the tournament demonstrated the impact a committed host club, committee and community can have on an AJGA event. We are incredibly grateful to the tournament committee, Indian Creek Yacht & Country Club, and the local community for their unwavering commitment to the AJGA’s mission and the development of junior golf. The Junior All-Star of the Year Award is a well-deserved recognition of the tremendous impact they have made locally and on the AJGA.”
Houston Denney, Senior Regional Director, Southeast

The tournament committee played a key role in the event’s success, helping secure support throughout the Northern Neck community and creating additional touches for players throughout the week. They helped assemble extra player goodie bags featuring items from Tournament Partners and worked with a local entertainment center to provide discounted nightly activities for players and AJGA staff.

Volunteer support was another major factor in the tournament’s success. The committee filled more than 90 volunteer positions for timing stations, spotters and shuttles, helping provide the support needed to operate the event throughout the week.

“The tournament was a tremendous success for the players, the club and the entire Northern Neck community. Nearly $400,000 was generated in local economic impact during tournament week, but the event’s impact goes well beyond that. The support of our volunteers, tournament committee, local donors, Junior-Am participants and the Indian Creek community is what makes this event so special. Their commitment has created an experience that benefits the region while providing an incredible opportunity for our local high school golfers and junior golfers from around the country.”
Steve Mattheisien, Tournament Chair

Named in honor of the late Gil Zimmerman, a distinguished amateur golfer and devoted ambassador for the game, the Northern Neck Junior All-Star trophy serves as a lasting tribute to his influence both on and off the course. The event continues to honor his legacy by fostering the same passion, character, and commitment to excellence that defined his life.

“Gil would be so pleased to know that an AJGA event is being played in the Northern Neck community he loved, and would have enjoyed the fine golf and sportsmanship that we will witness this week.”
Karen Zimmerman

The Junior All-Star of the Year award will be officially presented at The Northern Neck Junior All-Star at Indian Creek, held August 10-13, 2026, Indian Creek Yacht & Country Club in Kilmarnock, Virginia.
