In 2007, Randy Wise Automotive Team put its name behind a longstanding American Junior Golf Association event in Michigan. Since then, the Randy Wise Junior Open has become a fixture on the AJGA schedule and a lasting example of the impact a committed tournament partner can have on junior golf. The 2026 Randy Wise Junior Open presented by Genesee County marks the 20th year of Randy Wise Automotive Team's title sponsorship.

Over those 20 years, the tournament has provided junior golfers from across the country and around the world an opportunity to compete at some of Michigan's most recognizable golf courses while making a significant impact in the communities that have welcomed the event.

Since Randy Wise became title sponsor, the tournament has generated more than $3.6 million in total economic impact for the region and over $120,000 in charitable proceeds.

The milestone is being celebrated this week at Spring Meadows Country Club in Linden, Michigan, where the 2026 tournament runs Aug. 11-13. The event features 54 holes of stroke play for boys and girls ages 12-19 and includes a Junior-Am fundraising tournament as part of tournament week.

Over the past two decades, the Randy Wise Junior Open has also served as an early stop in the careers of players who have gone on to compete at the highest levels of golf.

Joey Garber captured the boys title in 2009, closing with a 6-under-par 66 to finish at 7-under-par 209. Garber later earned PGA TOUR membership for the 2018-19 season and has continued his professional career on the Korn Ferry Tour.

Doug Ghim competed in the Randy Wise Junior Open in 2010 before developing into one of the event's most recognizable professional alumni. Ghim went on to become a PGA TOUR member and has earned more than $9 million in his PGA TOUR career.

On the girls side, Muni He earned her first AJGA victory at the 2012 Randy Wise Junior Open, closing with a 3-under-par 69 to win at 3-over-par 219. She later turned professional and joined the LPGA Tour in 2019.

One year later, Jillian Hollis won the 2013 girls title at 1-under-par 215. Hollis went on to earn LPGA Tour status after finishing fifth on the 2019 Epson Tour money list and has continued to compete professionally.

Few players have left a mark on the tournament like James Piot. The Canton, Michigan, native became the first boys player in the Randy Wise era to win consecutive titles, capturing the championship in 2016 and 2017. Piot later won the 2021 U.S. Amateur at Oakmont Country Club before beginning his professional career.

Michaela Morard, the 2018 girls champion, is another Randy Wise alumna to reach the professional ranks. Morard joined the Epson Tour in 2025 after a junior career that included six AJGA victories.

While the Randy Wise name has been part of the tournament since 2007, the event's AJGA history stretches back to 1985, when it was first played as the Great Lakes Buick Junior. It later became the Buick Junior Open before Randy Wise Automotive Team assumed title sponsorship.

That broader history adds even more names to the tournament's legacy. Before Randy Wise became title sponsor, the event produced champions including Phil Mickelson, who won in 1987 and 1988; Paula Creamer, who won in 2001 and 2002; and Morgan Pressel, the 2003 girls champion.

During the Randy Wise era, the tournament has been contested at four Michigan golf courses: Flint Elks Lodge 222 Golf Club, Spring Meadows Country Club, Warwick Hills Golf & Country Club and Flint Golf Club.

Spring Meadows has become the tournament's longtime home. The club first hosted the Randy Wise Junior Open in 2008 before the event returned in 2018. The 2026 tournament marks the 12th time Spring Meadows has hosted.

The Spring Meadows relationship has been strengthened by the people behind the tournament. Spring Meadows Head Golf Professional Rick Slaght was named the AJGA's 2024 Golf Professional of the Year for his dedication to the event, junior golfers and the AJGA's mission.

As another field takes to Spring Meadows Country Club in 2026, the Randy Wise Junior Open celebrates two decades of providing opportunities for junior golfers and supporting the communities that have helped make the tournament possible.
