Phillip Dunham of Ponte Vedra Beach, Florida, shot a 5-under-par 67 with five birdies in a bogey-free first round. This is Dunham's second AJGA event of 2021. He finished 10th at the TaylorMade TP5 Junior All-Star back in April.
John Daniel Culbreth of Thomasville, Georgia, shot 4-under-par 68 and holds sole possession of second-place. Rounding out the top three at 2-under-par 70 were: Lev Grinberg of Brasschaat, Belgium, and Qi (Steven) Liu of Lake Mary, Florida.
Sydnie Duvall of Dana Point, California, leads the Girls Division with a 1-under-par 71 after the first round. Duvall is looking to come out on top this week after finishing ninth last week at the AJGA Thunderbird Junior All-Star.
At even-par 72 through 18 holes, four girls sit tied for second: Amelie Phung of Forest Hills, New York, GaEun Athena Yoo of Alpharetta, Georgia, Zoe Pinillos of Trujillo, Peru, and Menglu Zhu of Windermere, Florida.
