Canon Cup Returning to The Honors Course in 2007
Premier team junior golf event scheduled for July 30-August 2

For the second time in the 18-year history of the American Junior Golf Association’s prestigious Canon Cup, the event will be held at The Honors Course in Ooltewah, Tenn. The tournament is scheduled for July 30 - Aug. 2, 2007, and will once again be the preeminent gathering of the top junior golfers from around the country.

The Canon Cup pits East vs. West (divided by the Mississippi River) in a team match play format over three days. The first two days of competition include foursome and four-ball matches, and the final day is reserved for singles matches. Each team consists of 10 boys and 10 girls with the rosters being finalized in mid-July based on the current Polo Golf Junior Rankings.

When the Canon Cup first came to The Honors Course in 1995, the West was defeated 27-23 by an East squad that included current PGA TOUR players James Driscoll, Charles Howell III and Ryuji Imada and LPGA players Beth Bauer, Cristie Kerr and Reilley Rankin.

The Honors Course, which is used to being mentioned on exclusive lists, now joins Conway Farms Golf Club (2002, 2006) in Lake Forest, Ill., and Caves Valley Golf Club (1997, 2004) in Owings Mills, Md., as the Canon Cup’s only repeat hosts. The course is ranked No. 11 by Golfweek in the modern course (post-1960) category. As impressive is its ranking by Golf Digest. The Honors Course is ranked No. 32 on the list of America’s 100 Greatest Golf Courses.

The course is already included on a long list of impressive Canon Cup host sites, such as Capital City Club’s Crabapple Course (Atlanta), Sea Island Golf Club’s Seaside Course (Sea Island, Ga.), TPC at River Highlands (Cromwell, Conn.), and Lake Nona Golf Club (Orlando).

Other former Canon Cup participants include Tiger Woods, Stewart Cink, David Gossett, Joe Ogilvie, Grace Park, Paula Creamer, Julieta Granada, Brittany Lincicome and Morgan Pressel.
