The American Junior Golf Association will return to Rio Grande, Puerto Rico, Jan. 18-21, for the Puerto Rico Junior Open sponsored by Sport Link, and for the third consecutive year, the champion will earn a sponsors exemption into the PGA TOURs Puerto Rico Open presented by seepuertorico.com. The tournament will be held on the Championship Course at Trump International Golf Club, home of the PGA TOUR event.
The tournament field will consist of 72 boys and the tournament application deadline is Tuesday, Nov. 27, at 5 p.m. ET. The tournament is the only AJGA Open event to offer a PGA TOUR exemption to its champion.
The AJGA is excited to return to Puerto Rico for the third year, said Jason Ross, vice president of tournament development. With the support of the Puerto Rico Golf Association and the Puerto Rico Open, we can once again provide a unique experience for AJGA members to compete on a championship venue.
In 2012, Edward Figueroa of Naples, Fla., was victorious, earning his second AJGA title and first PGA TOUR start.
It [meant] so much in so many ways because my family is from San Juan and we visited them every day, said Figueroa, who posted 72-74, one stroke shy of making the cut.
Designed by PGA Professional Tom Kite, Trump International Golf Club is made up of two 18-hole championship courses - the Championship and the International. The Championship Course extends along the Atlantic Ocean and offers views of the Caribbean National Rainforest of El Yunque.
