The AJGA will announce a tournament award winner each week leading up to the AJGA's Annual Meeting and the announcement of the Digger Smith Award.

Billy Anderson, Director of Golf at Eagle Point Golf Club, which hosted the Wyndham Cup in Wilmington, N.C., July 25 – 28, 2011, has earned the Golf Professional of the Year Award from the American Junior Golf Association. The Golf Professional Award honors a PGA professional whose selfless commitment makes the championship special for the players, families and staff.

Each year, the AJGA presents awards to the tournaments with the best individual media coverage, Junior-Am fundraising tournament, charitable giving, volunteer base and hospitality. The AJGA also recognizes its most improved event, best new tournament, best Invitational, and overall tournament of the year.

Wyndham Cup has always been a special event on the AJGA schedule since it began in 1990, but when the annual East vs. West showdown traveled to Eagle Point Golf Club, Anderson and the entire staff worked tirelessly to make the event even more memorable. Everything from the golf course, to the clubhouse, to the food was first class the entire week.

“To be associated with the AJGA in this way is such an honor,” Anderson said. “But the award is not just for me, it is for the entire course and staff, the membership at Eagle Point, owner Bobby Long and everyone at Wyndham Worldwide. We are all just so happy to support junior golf.”

When Anderson, who has been at Eagle Point since 1999, was able to take a break from his work and watch some golf, he was very impressed with the young golfers and is happy with where the future of golf is headed.

“I started playing golf when I was 16 and I love seeing these kids have the same passion for the game that I had growing up,” Anderson said. “I have been lucky to do something I love my entire life and now seeing that passion in the next generation is extremely encouraging.”

Award recipients will be recognized at the AJGA's Annual Meeting, which will be held March 9-11 at Château Élan Resort in Braselton, Ga.
