FootJoy Invitational Collects Volunteer Award

During last year’s FootJoy Invitational, Patty Heath, the event’s volunteer chairman, had an army of more than 90 volunteers show their support for junior golf by spending their week working as pace of play officials, live scoring reporters, shuttle drivers, water station attendants, ball spotters and standard bearers – all of this while battling weather delays that plagued the event.

Bobby Powell, FootJoy Invitational co-tournament chairman and Wyndham Championship director of operations, attending the Digger Smith Awards Banquet to accept the award on behalf of the tournament committee and all those who volunteered last June.

“The FootJoy Invitational is honored to accept this great award and to be recognized by the best organization in junior golf,” Powell said in his acceptance speech. “ To be given this award over the other 70-plus tournaments on the AJGA schedule is a great achievement. Patty Heath served as our volunteer chairman and she truly deserves the credit for this award. Many thanks go to her, her family and the volunteers who dedicated their time and efforts to the tournament.”

For their efforts, volunteers received a tournament hat and shirt as a uniform, and were given complementary meals while at the event.

“Volunteers are the lifeblood of a successful AJGA event,” Jonah Beck said, AJGA FootJoy Invitational tournament director. “There was not a better example of this than those who dedicated their week to our event last June. Most of these volunteers have come back for numerous years and work multiple days, and for that we are truly thankful.”
