Junior Round-up

Shang Zhi

Shang Zhi of Bradenton, Fla., and Sally Watson of Scotland, were named Golfweek’s Players of the Week for their performances over the past week at the FCWT Leadbetter Challenge.

Zhi started the final round in a four-way tie for the lead, but made double bogey on the first hole and made the turn in 39. He made four birdies and no bogeys on the back nine for a one-shot victory.

He has signed a National Letter of Intent with Minnesota.

Watson, fresh off competing at the ANNIKA Invitational, finished with a 1-under-par 143 at IMG Academies Golf & Country Club to win by a stroke. She has signed a National Letter of Intent to play for Stanford in the fall.

Professional Round-up

Pat Perez was victorious at the The 50th Bob Hope Classic hosted by Arnold Palmer in Bermuda Dunes, Calif., last weekend. Perez finished at 33-under-par for the week, winning by three strokes. Rounding out the top 10 spots were John Merrick, Mike Weir, Steve Stricker, Stephen Ames, Tim Clark, Webb Simpson, Bo Van Pelt, Brad Adamonis, Richard S. Johnson, John Senden, Chad Campbell, and Tom Pernice, Jr.

The Achieving Competitive Excellence (ACE) Grant program provides financial assistance to junior golfers who wish to play in AJGA events. Its goal is to give top-flight golf opportunities to young golfers regardless of financial resources. This program helps to fulfill the AJGA’s mission of developing young men and women who aspire to earn college golf scholarships through competitive junior golf.

What is Leadership Links?

Leadership Links is a new program whereby the AJGA is able to further its mission to help develop young men and women by teaching charitable giving skills and service-oriented practices at an early age. This program gives juniors all the tools necessary to donate their time, talent and resources to local charities and the AJGA youth development programs.
