The nation’s brightest minds and best junior golfers were named as AJGA Scholastic Junior All-Americans, the American Junior Golf Association announced on November 17. Created in 1988, the 2020 list recognizes the achievements of top junior golfers who also demonstrated excellence in academics.

“This group of 72 Scholastic Junior All-Americans represents the culmination of the AJGA’s mission”, said Stephen Hamblin, AJGA Executive Director. “They exemplify sportsmanship on the golf course and citizenship in their schools at the highest level.”

The 72 AJGA Scholastic Junior All-Americans are from 23 states and three countries; Puerto Rico, China and Canada. No. 27 Casey Weidenfeld of Pembroke Pines, Florida, and No. 31 Andrew Goodman of Norman, Oklahoma, represent the top girl and boy in the Rolex AJGA Rankings honored.

To determine this annual honor, the AJGA uses an adjusted GPA scale to systemically compare applicants from the class of 2021. In 2020, AJGA Scholastic Junior All-Americans averaged an AJGA-adjusted high school GPA of 4.528.

Criteria for AJGA Scholastic Junior All-America honors was updated in response to challenges for all high school students because of the COVID-19 pandemic, including elimination and reduced access to standardized testing for most of the year. Some AJGA Scholastic Junior All-Americans qualified for the honor based on a top junior golf finish, and GPA only. Others qualified through a combination of standardized test score and GPA. This group of qualified players earned an average ACT of 34 and SAT of 1490.

AJGA Scholastic Junior All-Americans all finished in the top 15 (boys) and top 10 (girls) in an AJGA Open or Invitational event during the 2020 national junior golf season.

In addition, the top 12 boys and top 12 girls based on the Rolex AJGA Rankings who were not already qualified as of October 27, were invited to compete in the Rolex Tournament of Champions at PGA National in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida, November 23-28. The event annually gathers top players, including award winners, and signals the official opening of the next season of national junior golf competition in the Rolex AJGA Rankings.

The 24 invitees are headlined by top-Rolex AJGA Rankings players No. 80 Drew Kim of Pleasanton, California, and No. 72 Lauren Clark of Orlando, Florida . Kim, a verbal commit to Cal Poly State, had two top-four 2020 finishes, while Clark, LSU verbal commit, won the Greenwood Junior Championship.
