North & South Women's Amateur Championship
Last week marked the 115th year of the North & South Women's Amateur Championship at Pinehurst No. 2. Ninety women flocked from all over the country to play the tournament, consisting of 36 holes of stroke play before the top 32 event to match play.
Isabella Fierro of Campeche, Mexico, defeated Anna Redding of Concord, North Carolina, in the final match to win her . On Friday the pair battled it out until No. 17 where Fierro made par to clinch a 2&1 victory and be the first Mexican-born player to win the North & South Women’s Amateur Championship.
U.S. Women's Open
Current AJGA player, Hye-Jin Choi, stunned the crowds at the 2017 U.S. Women’s Open at Trump National Golf Club in Bedminster, New Jersey, last week. The 17-year-old produced four birdies during the final round to card a 2-under-par 70 and finish two shots back from the winner as the runner-up.
Choi is currently the No. 2 player in the World Amateur Golf Rankings and has been an AJGA member for the past two years. She has one victory at her first AJGA event, the Polo Golf Junior Classic. Since then, Choi played at this year’s ANA Junior Inspiration where she placed fifth.
IMG Academy Jr. World Championship
The IMG Academy Jr. World Championship were contested at Torrey Pines Golf Course last week. Julian Perico topped the field in the Boys Division on the South Course. During his final round, the 17-year-old had six birdies and finished at 4-under-par 68. Peroco has had two top-10 finishes so far in his AJGA career.
