Justin Wingerter of Olathe, Kansas, edged out a victory at the Kansas City Junior Championship. Finishing with a 1-under-par 141, Wingerter carded three crucial birdies on the last three holes to defeat Joe Bultman by one stroke. During this year’s high school season, Wingerter placed 4th as an individual medalist in class 5A. The 16-year-old finished T13 in the 2017 Cameron McCormick Junior All-Star.
Ainsley Cowart of Winston, Georgia, earned her first AJGA victory in the Girls Division at the AJGA Preview at Château Élan. Finishing 3-over-par 145, Cowart blew past the competition with a five-stroke lead. In 2017, the rising senior was named to the Georgia High School All-State Team after her team finished first in the region. With the AJGA victory, Cowart has moved to T323 in the Rolex AJGA Rankings.
Jiewu Rao of Guangzhou, China, captured a victory in the Boys Division at the AJGA Preview at Château Élan. In the first round, Rao carded a 3-under-par 68 to give himself a two-stroke lead. In the final round, Rao struggled early but recovered on the back nine with two birdies. Finishing even-par-142, Rao won by four strokes.
Hailey Schalk of Erie, Colorado, sealed a victory in the Girls Division (Ages 15-18) at the JGAC - IMG Academy Qualifier. Finishing at 7-under-par 137, Schalk dominated the final round with six birdies and 12 pars. Schalk is currently No. 192 in the Rolex AJGA Rankings and a champion at the 2017 Hale Irwin Colorado Junior by Transamerica. The rising junior has been playing in the AJGA for four years where she has finished top-20 eight times.
