AJGA alum Gordon Sargent of Birmingham, Alabama, won a four-way playoff at Grayhawk Golf Club, taking the individual title at the 2022 NCAA D1 Men's Golf National Championship.

Vanderbilt University's Sargent teed off on No. 10 and carded a bogey-free front nine. He scored a even-par 70 with two birdies and two bogeys on his back nine in the first round. After consecutive rounds of 2-under-par 68, Sargent took the clubhouse lead by one stroke.

Sargent struggled in the final round, shooting a 4-over-par 74 with four bogeys on his scorecard. He finished at even-par 280, tied with three other players who would compete with him in a four-way playoff for the individual title.

The Vanderbilt freshman closed out the playoff with a birdie putt on the first playoff at No. 18, and become the second Vanderbilt golfer to win the NCAA individual title. Sargent is the ninth freshman all-time to earn the individual national title and the first since AJGA alum Jamie Lovemark (University of Southern California) did it in 2007.

During his junior golf career, the 2020 First Team Rolex Junior All-American competed at 29 AJGA tournaments and won two Junior All-Star tournaments. Sargent also competed on the victorious East Team at the 2021 Wyndham Cup.
