AJGA alumnus Michael Thorbjornsen, a rising junior at the University of Stanford, closed out his week at fourth at the Travelers Championship to record the best finish by amateur on the PGA TOUR since 2016.

Playing on a sponsorship exemption, the Stanford Cardinal carded his first two rounds at 2-under-par 68 and 5-under-par 65, making him the third amateur to make a PGA TOUR cut this season. It was his 4-under-par 66 on Saturday that put him tied for seventh going into the final round.

The 20-year-old fired an eagle on the par-5 No. 6 and made four consecutive birdies through Nos. 8-11 to put himself in contention to become the first amateur to win on the PGA TOUR since AJGA alumnus Phil Mickelson in 1991. However, two bogeys on Nos. 12 and 13 pulled him behind. Thorbjornsen posted a final round of 4-under-par 66 to finish at solo fourth with a total of 15-under-par 265 at the Travelers Championship.

The amateur from Massachusetts competed at 13 AJGA tournaments between 2017-2019 and won the 2018 PING Invitational. The 2018 First Team Rolex Junior All-American also won 2018 U.S. Junior Amateur and competed on the East Team at the 2018 and 2019 Wyndham Cup.
