In 2019, Lucy Li of Redwood Shores, California, won the Polo Golf Junior Classic girls division and started a unique inspired performance over two weeks.

Then No. 6 in the Rolex AJGA Rankings, Li defeated Savannah Grewal of (Canada) Mississauga, Ontario, 5 & 3.

The Rolex Junior All-American started the match 1-down to Grewal after a bogey on her first hole. Li battled back over the next eight holes to turn the tables on Grewal and gain a 2-up advantage going into the 10th hole. Stable and consistent, Li birdied four of her remaining six holes, including the par-4 No. 15 at host Liberty National Golf Club, to claim her victory over Grewal and the title.

Like a number of Polo Golf Junior Classic participants, Li flew straight from the New York area and went to the next event of her summer schedule, the Wyndham Cup. The team match play format, hosted at Old Town Club in Winston-Salem, North Carolina, annually features the 10 boys and 10 girls from both the East and West coasts in a Ryder Cup-style format.

In North Carolina, Li faced an unusual circumstance when her golf clubs were lost in transit by the airline.

When it looked like they would not arrive, Li borrowed clubs from Old Town Head Pro Charles Frost, a fairway wood from PGA TOUR Wyndham Championship Tournament Director Mark Brazil, a driver from AJGA Senior VP of Development Kevin Rinker, and a putter from Michael Thorbjornsen, one of her competitors during the week.

Over her three days at Wyndham Cup, Li went 4-0 in her matches to end 10-0-0 over the two consecutive weeks.
