Ryan Moore of Forest Lake Country Club was named the recipient of the American Junior Golf Association’s 2018 Superintendent of the Year award.

Each year, the AJGA presents awards to the tournaments with the best individual hospitality, Junior-Am Fundraising Tournament, charitable giving and volunteer base. Awards are also given to the events with engaged media and social media participation. Finally, the AJGA recognizes the year’s most outstanding golf professional, superintendent and golf course executive, as well as the most game changing event, best new event, best Junior Golf Hub Preview Series tournament, best AJGA Junior All-Star Series tournament, best Invitational and overall tournament of the year. Tournament awards for the 2018 season will be presented on-site at the 2019 tournaments.

Forest Lake Country Club has hosted the AJGA for six-consecutive years and has received two tournament awards in its history: the 2015 Media Award and the 2013 Junior All-Star of the Year Award.

The 2018 event, now called the UHY Detroit Junior at Forest Lake, hosted 96 junior golfers who represented 13 states and three countries. The 54-hole stroke play event also featured 10 AJGA champions and 34 college commits. Moore has been the Superintendent all six years, annually serving as an asset in the Midwest.

“I am very fortunate to work for an outstanding private club facility and membership that supports our maintenance goals and welcomed the AJGA to Forest Lake since 2013,” said Moore. “Over the years we have created a great partnership alongside the tournament directors, where we have been able to push greens speeds, challenging the field to play Forest Lake Country Club at its potential.”

Moore not only offers his services on the greens but showcases his support for the AJGA and amateur golf each year. Moore wears AJGA shirts and hats the entire week, visits the first and 18th tee to talk to staff and parents, attends the Awards Ceremony, plays in the Junior-Am and writes a personal thank you note to AJGA staff thanking them for their hard work.

“All of us at Forest Lake are thrilled for Ryan to receive this well-deserved, national recognition from the AJGA. His knowledge, work ethic and leadership of his team are evident every day of our golf season with the outstanding condition of our playing surfaces. He’s proud that we host the AJGA each year and loves to showcase our course for the players and their families for the 4-5 days they’re with us,” noted Tournament Chair, Richard Lynch.

Moore will receive the award at the 2019 UHY Detroit Junior at Forest Lake August 5-8 during the Awards Ceremony.
