BRASELTON, Ga. — For the second consecutive year, the Dalhousie Junior Championship earned the American Junior Golf Association’s Tournament of the Year award. The second-year tournament, held Aug. 11-14 at Dalhousie Golf Club in Cape Girardeau, Mo., once again showcased the AJGA, its members, sponsors and host facility better than any other tournament on the Association’s 84-event schedule, and became the first ever repeat winner of the award.
“On behalf of all the members and staff at The Dalhousie Golf Club, we are honored to be the first club recognized as the AJGA’s Tournament of the Year two years in a row,” said Cord Dombrowski, tournament chairman and owner of Dalhousie Golf Club. “This esteemed award is truly a testament to everyone’s efforts to make the Dalhousie Junior Championship a memorable and prestigious event for all involved.”
The community support was a key component of the event’s success and was reflected by the tournament’s activities. Two tournament cookouts kept the players and their families fed and highlighted Cape Girardeau’s local flavor. The Dalhousie Golf Club Fish Fry was held at Dalhousie at Water’s Edge after the first round, and the field participated in the second-annual Lambert’s Throwed Roll Challenge after the second round.
In addition, Dalhousie Golf Club created custom-made champion trophies with a wood base from the heart of a cherry tree and steel model of the Emerson Memorial Bridge, a fixture in the city of Cape Girardeau. The tournament featured 144 players from 26 states, and each state flag flew in front of the clubhouse and represented the players from across the nation.
In 2009, Dalhousie Golf Club will host the AJGA’s longest-running tournament – the Rolex Tournament of Champions. The 72-hole championship will be held June 30-July 4, and will showcase 144 of the best junior golfers from around the world.
