On July 24, 2021, Nicholas Dunlap of Huntsville, Alabama, won the 73rd U.S. Junior Amateur at The Country Club of North Carolina in Village of Pinehurst, North Carolina. He defeated fellow AJGA player Cohen Trolio of West Point, Mississippi, 3 & 2 in the 36-hole championship match to claim his first USGA title.

He defeated fellow AJGA players Jack Turner of Orlando, Florida, Hunter Thomson of Calgary, Alberta, Canada, Matthew Comegys of Van Alstyne, Texas, Robbie Higgins of Sarasota, Florida, Luke Potter of Encinitas, California, and Trolio on his way to winning the title.

Dunlap, a rising high school senior, is verbally committed to play golf at the University of Alabama. Last month, he won the Polo Golf Junior Classic at Liberty National in Jersey City, New Jersey, and earlier this month was a member of the victorious Wyndam Cup East team at Bulls Bay Golf Club in Awendaw, South Carolina.
