MassMutual Pairs Up With the American Junior Golf Association

Financial Group to Support Junior-Am Events Across the Nation

Grassroots junior golf organizations and the American Junior Golf Association will benefit from a new sponsorship agreement, the AJGA announced Wednesday, Mar. 31.

MassMutual Financial Group, a global financial services organization, will sponsor 20 Junior-Am fundraising events in 2004, lending support to the AJGA’s efforts to give back to the local communities that support AJGA tournaments.

“We’re excited to have a prestigious organization like MassMutual Financial Group on board,” said Jason Etzen, AJGA executive vice president of development. “Their support will help junior golfers achieve their goals of earning college golf scholarships.”

A Junior-Am typically pairs a top junior golfer from an AJGA tournament field with four amateurs for a day of competition. Funds raised from this outing go toward the tournament, as well as a local junior golf charity.

"We are pleased to support the growth and development of young athletes through our sponsorship of the American Junior Golf Association,” said Sue Tougas, assistant vice president of corporate communications for Massachusetts Mutual Life Insurance Company (MassMutual) . “In addition, golf demographics help us reach our target consumer audience. Thus, the combination is a natural fit for us."

MassMutual Financial Group – comprised of member companies with more than $285 billion in assets under management as of year-end 2003 – is a global, growth-oriented, diversified financial services organization providing life insurance, annuities, disability income insurance, long-term care insurance, retirement planning products, structured settlement annuities, money management, and other financial products and services. The MassMutual Financial Group is a marketing designation for MassMutual and its subsidiaries.

The American Junior Golf Association is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to the overall growth and development of young men and women who aspire to earn college golf scholarships through competitive junior golf. The largest association of its kind, the AJGA has a junior membership (boys and girls ages 12-18) of approximately 5,000 junior golfers from 50 states and 30 foreign countries.

Titleist, the AJGA’s National Sponsor, has been the catalyst and driving force behind the Association’s success since 1989. Rolex Watch USA, a supporter of the AJGA since 1983, became the inaugural AJGA Premier Partner in 2004.

AJGA alumni have risen to the top of amateur, collegiate and professional golf. More than 160 former AJGA juniors currently play on the PGA and LPGA Tours and have compiled more than 300 wins. AJGA alumni include Phil Mickelson, Tiger Woods, Davis Love III, Mike Weir, Charles Howell III, Jim Furyk, Vicki Goetze-Ackerman, Grace Park, Cristie Kerr and Beth Bauer.
