AJGA alumni win National Championship

Maria Fassi, of Pachucha Hidalgo, Mexico, claimed the Individual Title at the NCAA Division I Women’s Golf Championship at her home course Blessings Golf Club in Fayetteville, Arkansas. The Razorback and AJGA alumni, started off the first round with four birdies to put her three strokes behind first with a score of 1-under-par 72. In the second round, Fassi carded two birdies and an eagle on the fifth hole to end the round at 2-under-par 71, just two strokes behind University of Florida junior, Sierra Brooks a fellow AJGA alum. In the final round, Fassi never looked back shooting a bogey-free round with a total of five birdies to solidify her victory. During her time as an AJGA member, Fassi competed in nine AJGA events with her best finish coming at the 2013 Genesis Shootout presented by Valero Texas Open where she placed second.

Wake Forest University and Duke University faced off in the Women’s Championship Final Wednesday, at the Blessings Golf Club in Fayettville, Arkansas, carrying five AJGA alumni. With three matches going to playoffs, Duke took home the championship 3-2-0. AJGA Alum and Duke sophomore, Jaravee Boonchant, defeated Jennifer Kupcho in a playoff, finishing the match in 19 holes. Duke’s Virginia Elena Carta and Gina Kim and Wake Forest’s Siyun Liu and Emilia Migliaccio also played in AJGA events preceding their college career.
