The Under Armour® / Jordan Spieth Championship was named the 2014 Newcomer of the Year by the American Junior Golf Association. The inaugural event was hosted at The University of Texas Golf Club, home of the University of Texas men’s and women’s golf teams, August 11-14.
“Being a part of the development and growth of the game for the next generation of golfer is the best part of Under Armour’s involvement with the AJGA,” said Ryan Kuehl, senior category director, global golf & tennis at Under Armour®. “Seeing the growth of the players both on and off the course is awesome.”
AJGA alum Jordan Spieth partnered with Under Armour® to host an event at his alma mater’s home course just three years after he played AJGA events as a junior.
“Having Jordan on-site made this experience truly unforgettable for the golfers this year,” Kuehl said. “He was able to share his expertise on everything from his warm-up routine to how he stays focused in between rounds, providing valuable insight to all in attendance.”
The former Texas Longhorn is one of the most successful junior golfers in AJGA history. During his five-year AJGA career, he amassed five victories and was a three-time Rolex Junior All-American, including a 2009 campaign that earned him Rolex Junior Player of the Year honors.
“We were so proud to have Jordan host this year’s event, especially on a course that means so much to him personally, and the great response led to one of the top fields of the season,” Kuehl said. “It’s going to be hard to top, but we are looking forward to growing this event for years to come.”
The Under Armour® / Jordan Spieth Championship presented by American Campus Communities will return to The University of Texas Golf Club, July 6-9.
