Kyle Stanley of Clemson won the Jones Cup Invitational held at Ocean Forest Golf Club in Sea Island, Ga., Sunday. He was tied with Morgan Hoffmann of Oklahoma State at 1-over-par after three rounds. Stanley won on the second hole of a playoff to come out on top in his final non-college amateur event.
Jon Curran of Vanderbilt, David May of Clemson, Mike McCoy, Brian Harman and Adam Mitchell of Georgia, Bud Cauley of Alabama, Zack Sucher of Alabama-Birmingham, Drew Weaver of Virginia Tech, Brendan Gielowof Wake Forest, and Carlton Forrester rounded out the top 10.
AJGA members Cody Gribble, Cory Whitsett, and Brinson Paolini also finished in the top 10. Whitsett and Paolini are scheduled to compete in this weekend’s HP Boys Championship at Carlton Woods.
Florida Southern College edged Rollins by two strokes to repeat as champions at the Tusculum College/Kiawah Island Intercollegiate Sunday. Joanne Coe of Rollins College captured medalist honors with a tournament record 6-under-par 138. Marianne Andersson and Silvie Dittertova, both of Florida Southern, Megan Mangone of Lynn University, Cecilia Kleinert of Rollins, Anna Haglind of Barry University, and Lina Elmsater of Pfeiffer University rounded out the top five.
Gregor Main, a freshman at UCLA, was the lone amateur to make the cut at the PGA TOUR’s Buick Invitational at Torrey Pines in La Jolla, Calif., last weekend. He survived a four-for-three playoff in Monday’s qualifier for the event and carded a 1-over-par 145 through two rounds to secure his spot through the weekend. Main finished the tournament at 9-over-par 297.
Nick Watney won the event, his second career victory, with a total of 11-under-par 277. He birdied two of the last three holes to complete the comeback win. John Rollins, Lucas Glover, Camilo Villegas, Matt Jones, Matthew Goggin, Ben Crane, Luke Donald, Bubba Watson and Charley Hoffman all finished in the top 10.
