The NCAA Division I Men’s Championship ended May 31 with Kevin Chappell leading the UCLA Bruins to victory. Chappell finished with a three-shot victory over Indiana’s Jorge Campillo to capture the individual title. This is the second national golf title for UCLA and their first since 1988.
Two other former AJGA players, Rickie Fowler of Oklahoma State and Sihwan Kim of Stanford, had excellent showings at the tournament as well, tying for fourth place.
The Curtis Cup, held May 30- June 1 at St. Andrews Golf Course in Scotland, proved to be an impressive showing of former and current AJGA members. The U.S. Team was lead to victory by Stacy Lewis, who won her final match 3 and 2, beating Liz Bennett of the Great Britain and Ireland Team. Lewis finished her first Curtis Cup with an undefeated five for five record. Alison Walshe was the only other undefeated American, winning four of four matches. These notable finishes were just the beginning for the team. Amanda Blumenherst beat Jodi Ewart 2 and 1 and current AJGA member Kimberly Kim was victorious, 3 and 1, over Breanne Loucks. The rest of the U.S. Team was comprised of current AJGA member Mina Harigae, former AJGA juniors Jennie Lee and Tiffany Joh, and Meghan Bolger.
