Like many others, Nick Dunlap of Northport, Alabama, spent his new year reflecting on the good and the bad of the previous year, but for Dunlap, boy was there a lot of good.
The Alabama native was named the 2021 Rolex Junior Player of the Year, earned Rolex Junior All-America honors for the second time, and closed out the year at No. 1 in the Rolex AJGA Rankings. Dunlap had nine top five finishes in national golf tournaments this past season. The high school senior won the 73rd United States Junior Amateur Championship and was a member of the Wyndham Cup East Team and the Junior Ryder Cup U.S. Team.
As Dunlap prepares for his final junior golf season, here are a few of his goals to improve on in 2022:
1. Get closer to God
"I haven’t in the past put in the full effort to become closer with him and I had a few instances this year where I felt touched by him so I believe it is something that I need to do."
2. Improve my workout routines and diets
"I’ve always been super healthy and kept a fairly strict diet routine but there are a couple of things I would like to see improve, especially my stretching which needs to get better."
3. Create a better short game practice routine
"You can never get good enough with this and I have a few ideas that could help me."
4. Spend as much time with family as I can
"I recently lost a grandfather and it just shows me that time is always limited and family always comes first."
5. Learn to love the game!
"Sometimes I’m too hard on myself. I think it is crucial finding things to do with golf that make it more fun because of how hard this game is."
Following his final AJGA season and high school graduation in 2022, Dunlap is set to attend the University of Alabama where he will play on the men's golf team.
