All those tournaments I watched her play

We traveled the country, so she could make her way.

It wasn’t my time, I was too young

She was doing all the work, I was having all the fun.

We went all over from one AJGA to another, She was playing well, and I was watching with my mother.

Our summers were full and seemed to never end,

I was her biggest fan, and her best friend

We made visits to colleges while on the road,

I was only in middle school, but taking notes on how this would unfold.

She made us all proud with her steady play,

And then came the time to her on her way.

Now she plays for her team and represents her school,

She’s with all new people, and that’s really cool.

This was my year, time to pave my way.

I studied hard and in golf I was really beginning to play.

People started asking, “Is that you?”

They thought I was the older one, “Boy you really grew!”

Scores started falling as I got used to my new height.

I was hoping coaches would notice, and I’d get a bite.

I was no longer the little one, sitting in the rough

I was making birdies and pars, showing I was tough.

The mailbox started to fill with letters addressed to me,

But in my heart I knew where I wanted to be.

Her first year ended and she came out to see my play,

It was her turn to watch from the rough during an AJGA.

She came out as a spectator a few times that summer.

She misses her AJGA days and that’s a bummer.

She said she couldn’t believe how much I’d changed,

And was excited to see the improvements in my game.

Her coaches came out to watch me play,

They liked what they saw, and that made my day.

I went to her school and took another look,

At the end of the day, I was so nervous my knees shook.

The coaches told me they wanted me on their team.

They made me so happy, I wanted to scream.

So in 2018 when my AJGA journey comes to an end,

I’ll be so happy to be playing with my sister, my best friend.
