BRASELTON, Ga. — Local organizers of the SAP Junior Open, which was held at Red Tail Golf Club in June 2008, have been recognized by the American Junior Golf Association for their continued efforts to improve the experience for junior golfers in the Avon area. The tournament earned the AJGA’s Most Improved Tournament Award, given annually to the tournament that had a substantial turn around and improvement from the previous year.
The AJGA’s Avon event started as a Preseason tournament in 2006 and has worked to become one of the top Open events on the AJGA schedule. Tournament hospitality was second to none, with breakfast and lunch available to players and their families all week. The Hawk’s Nest was opened and set up with beverages, food and wireless Internet for parents and coaches throughout tournament week. More than 40 volunteers showed up every day and provided a memorable experience for the junior golfers and their supporters.
"The key driver to improving our tournament was our Committee's continual focus on the junior golfer and trying to make Red Tail their best junior golf experience,” said Tournament Chairman Tom Kmiecik, who will accept the award during this year’s tournament (June 22-25). “We enjoy having these young men and young women at our tournament because of their exemplary behavior and contagious enthusiasm, and we are encouraged by the fact that they represent our future generation.”
