The Woodlands Country Club is definitely a highlight of The Woodlands. There are three, fully private, golf courses their members are able to choose from, not to mention their high-class clubhouse, dining, tennis, and workout facilities.
Director of Golf at The Woodlands Country Club, Darrell Fuston, says, “They are all three really good Championship golf courses. They all have different designers. We have 27 holes at Arnold Palmer that his company designed; we have an 18-hole Gary Player course. They are just different, they have different feels or have different pieces of property, and they’re separated by about five miles each.
The Woodlands also has a Tournament Course, where they host the Champions TOUR event, the Insperity Invitational. The Insperity Invitational was one of 24 stops on the Champions TOUR last year.
Fuston says, “It’s an annual event, an invitational here, the first week in May each year. It’s a very well attended event on the Champions Tour. Always rated as one of the best events of the year. There has been a TOUR event here at The Woodlands for a long time. First it was the Shell Houston Open and then there was a brief break after that left and then the Champions Tour event came. It is just about getting use to handling it, getting used to doing them.”
Not only does The Woodlands Country Club host the Champions TOUR, but they have also hosted AJGA tournaments for the past 25 years.
Fuston says, “It’s obviously great to have really good players around, whether it be the famous names on the Champions TOUR or the top junior players in the country here this week. It’s always a lot of fun.”
The Woodlands Country Club has an awesome tournament committee that organizes many things, volunteers for events that are held at the club included. The club has their members serve as Marshalls and greeters for the Champions Tour. The tournament committee and volunteers from the country club are also a huge part of the AJGA tournaments that come through annually.
