Three Little Birds Foundation will partner with the American Junior Golf Association for five years beginning in 2021 as title sponsor of the Three Little Birds Memorial AJGA Open .

The 54-hole tournament will be held June 22 and 23 at Piedmont Club in Haymarket, Virginia. This will be the second time Piedmont Club hosts an AJGA tournament. A qualifier for the event will take place at Dominion Valley Country Club on June 21.

Northern Virginia and the greater Washington, D.C. metro area is filled with talented male and female junior golfers. Having an opportunity to bring the AJGA back to Northern Virginia after a decade is incredibly exciting and brings a level of excitement to players, parents and community leaders.

The event’s inception is intended to grow the game of golf by providing high-performing players in the Washington, D.C. metro area with an opportunity to compete against top talent from across the world.

Proceeds from the tournament will help support a Three Little Birds Foundation program which advocates for patients and families diagnosed with chronic lymphedema and helps fund required and critical compression supplies, often not covered by insurance.

Lymphedema is a chronic swelling caused by a build-up of fluid in the lymphatic system. It is estimated that up to five million Americans suffer from lymphedema - including many undiagnosed cases. There is no known cure but lymphedema can be effectively treated through compression therapy. Without this critical care, patients are at increased risk for complications and disability.

“We are very excited to bring an AJGA Open event back to the Washington D.C. area,” said AJGA Director of Business Development Patrick Cansfield. “It has been 10 years since the AJGA last hosted an Open event in Northern Virginia. Scott Selby and his team are excited to help grow the game of golf in the Northern Virginia area and raise awareness and funding for those battling lymphedema.”

Competing against national talent is crucial for junior golfers across the nation. Bryan Lee, Chase Nevins, 2020 Rolex Junior Player of the Year Kelly Chinn, Mehrbaan Singh, Rylan Shim and Sihan Sandhu have inspired and influenced many kids in the Washington, D.C. area. Shim and Sandu led Team Virginia to their first and only PGA Junior League appearance in 2018. The new Three Little Birds Memorial AJGA Open gives upcoming junior golfers a chance to compete on a national stage and work to earn college golf scholarships.

The event will bring more than 150 visitors around the country to the Prince William County area. AJGA Open tournaments make up the largest part of the AJGA schedule.

All AJGA members may submit tournament applications to Open tournaments which are filled using the AJGA’s Performance Based Entry system.

About the Three Little Birds Foundation

Three Little Birds Foundation is a non-profit organization that advocates for patients and families who are diagnosed with Lymphedema and Lymphatic disorders. Our mission is to educate and advocate for patients suffering from lymphatic diseases and raise money for the compression band fund. The compression band fund is intended to help patients obtain compression supplies that are required to treat chronic Lymphedema. Lymphedema is an under-recognized disease affecting 3 to 5 million men, women, and children in the United States of America. Our team of committed volunteers in the DC-metro area sponsors a range of fund-raising events and advocacy programs for those patients and families suffering from this rare disease. We are interested in helping grow-the-game of golf and discussing ways we can create a competitive golf series in the Washington, DC metro area.
