The 2005 Canon Cup rankings have been finalized and we now await the naming of the teams, which will be announced in the days following the Rolex Tournament of Champions.
The top eight point earners in each of the four divisions are guaranteed an invitation to play in the annual East-versus-West match. In addition, two boys and two girls will round out each side as captains' picks.
Leading the way for the East are Peter Uihlein of Bradenton, Fla., and Morgan Pressel of Boca Raton, Fla. The West rankings are headed by Jamie Lovemark of Rancho Santa Fe, Calif., and Angela Park of Torrance, Calif.
Uihlein earned the top East Boys spot on the strength of two AJGA titles since last year's Canon Cup, the most recent coming at the First American Title Junior Classic. Pressel vaulted to the top of the East Girls rankings by winning the Polo Golf Junior Classic, Thunderbird International Junior and Rolex Girls Junior Championship.
Lovemark established himself atop the rankings by winning last year’s Rolex Tournament of Champions and Western Junior Amateur, and held onto the top spot by earning runner-up honors at this year’s Thunderbird International Junior. Park started with a runner-up finish at the 2004 Rolex Tournament of Champions, then picked up wins at the PGA Junior Championship and MCI Junior Heritage.
The 2005 Canon Cup will be contested August 8-11 at Capital City Club’s Crabapple Course in Woodstock, Ga., where the East will look to retain the cup it won at Caves Valley Golf Club in 2004.
