Castillo, a sophomore at Valencia High School in Placentia, California, was named a first-team Rolex Junior All-American after posting three top-three finishes in AJGA events. The University of Florida verbal commit captured a win in his first event of the year at the Winn Grips Heather Farr Classic hosted by Longbow Golf Club. Finishing second at the Callaway Golf Junior Championship and third at The PING Invitational helped Castillo earn a spot on the Wyndham Cup West Team roster and the No. 6 spot in the Polo Golf Rankings. Former LPGA Tour player Alice Miller will captain the United States PING Junior Solheim Cup team in 2017.

The 12 girls on the 2016 Rolex Junior All-America First Team are from seven states and Thailand. Among the girls, Kaitlyn Papp and Alyaa Abdulghany are the only returners to the First Team.

The 12 boys on the 2016 Rolex Junior All-America First Team hail from six states and Chile. All but two of the boys, Joaquin Niemann and Bryan Teoh Wiang, competed at the 2016 Wyndham Cup.
