In its fifth year at Edgewood Valley Country Club, the Junior Chicago Cup once again proved that the heart of junior golf extends far beyond the fairways. Hosted by Sam Wilda and Finley Tyrrell, this year’s Cobra PUMA Golf® State Cup Series event brought together 20 junior golfers for a weekend of spirited competition, camaraderie and a shared commitment to making a difference.

In honor of the fifth anniversary, the field set their sights on raising $55,555 for their selected charities. The event surpassed its ambitious goal, ultimately raising $57,590 for two causes close to the participants' hearts — Helping Hand and the Liberty National ACE Grant. The fundraising effort was highlighted by a powerful moment during the banquet dinner, when Helping Hand Vice President of Advancement, Erika Vavrik, accepted the ceremonial check alongside clients Sarah and Leon, who shared how the organization has opened doors for adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities.

"There’s something incredibly rewarding about watching these golfers pour their hearts into both competition and giving back. Handing that check to the very people whose lives will be changed is a reminder of the important work we do at the AJGA Foundation."

This year also carried a unique twist: co-host Finley Tyrrell was unable to compete after qualifying for the 2025 U.S. Junior Amateur. However, his absence on the course was met with overwhelming support, as the field tracked his progress from afar.

Competition on the course was as close as it gets. The two-day scramble ended in a tie, leading to a dramatic putt-off on the 18th green. In front of cheering teammates, co-host Sam Wilda sank the winning putt to secure his team’s victory and cap off a weekend filled with unforgettable memories.

"Being a host of the Junior Chicago Cup was very special. Golf has opened so many doors for me, and giving back through the game means I can open those doors for others. This event helped me turn a sport I love into a system that delivers real change; bringing together talent, sponsors and purpose in a way that will keep growing long after I graduate."
Sam Wilda, Tournament Host

The group of junior golfers at the 2025 Junior Chicago Cup made an incredible impact through their determination to give back. With next year’s event already in the capable hands of twin brothers Jack and Drew Wyent, the tradition of competition, community and compassion is set to continue stronger than ever.
