Pool Play at the Polo Golf Junior Classic

Jersey City, NJ – The first two rounds of pool play at the 42nd Polo Golf Junior Classic are in the books. The 64 player field this year is headlined by 42 past AJGA champions and 35 Rolex Junior All-Americans. The 32 boys and 32 girls are competing in the only match play format event on the AJGA schedule. 13 boys and eight of the girls are ranked within the top-25 of the Rolex AJGA Rankings.

16 juniors, six in the Polo Division and 11 in the Liberty Division, went undefeated through two matches.

Highlights of the day included Mahanth Chirravuri with a 4 & 2 victory over New York native Luke Sample. Chirravuri and Sample were back and forth down the front nine. Chirravuri birdied the Par 5 No. 9 to move to 2-up and continued his hot streak moving to 3-up on hole No. 12 and 4-up until the match ended on hole No. 16. Chirravurri is currently No. 47 in the Rolex AJGA Rankings and is looking for his first AJGA Invitational title.

In pool A Megha Ganne and Jaclyn LaHa both went 2-0 on the day setting up a winner takes all match tomorrow.

Ganne, the No. 2 player in the Rolex AJGA Rankings, faced Ava Merrill of Johns Creek, Georgia, and Jacqueline Nguyen of Houston, Texas. Ganne went 5 & 4 over Merrill in the afternoon and 4 & 3 over Nguyen in the morning. Ganne who recently earned low medalist honors at the U.S. Women’s Open is looking for her first AJGA invitational title this week.

Jack Turner out of pool G beat No. 15 in the Rolex Rankings Wells Williams of West Point, Mississippi, to kick-start his day. He won the match one-up on hole No. 18. He continued the hot play into the afternoon beating Bryan Lee of Fairfax, Virginia, 6 & 4. Turner got the 1-up lead on hole No. 2 and continued building on his lead until he closed out on hole No. 14 with a birdie.

The top-three boys in the Polo Division, James, Ford and Dunlap, swept their first two matches at #PoloGolfJC.

James, the 2021 Team TaylorMade Invitational Champion, went 2 & 1 over both Allan Kournikova of Palm Beach, Florida, and Sebastian Moss of Houston, Texas.

Ford, the Wyndham Invitational presented by Truist champion, went 5 & 4 over Andrew Spaulding of Spring, Texas, and 3 & 1 over fellow Georgian Will Morlan.

Dunlap had two dominant performances. His morning ended early with a 5 & 4 victory over Reed Greseryman of Boca Raton, Florida, as did his afternoon going 6 & 4 over Deven Patel of Johns Creek, Georgia.
