Day Two Results

Plymouth, MA - Day 2 of the 32nd Wyndham Cup is in the books with the West team leading 22.5 to 7.5.

In the early session, foursomes, the West team took eight of the ten matches bumping their lead to 19 to 6. They followed it up in the afternoon mixed foursomes winning three of the five matches and tying one to bring their total to 22.5 to the East Team's 7.5.

Since 1990, the Wyndham Cup has brought together 40 of the country’s top junior golfers (20 males and 20 females) in an East versus West team match play tournament. In addition to featuring some of the world’s best junior golfers annually, the Wyndham Cup is known for its iconic host venues. A list that features Old Sandwich Golf Club, Mayacama Golf Club, The Stanwich Club, and Arnold Palmer’s Bay Hill Club & Lodge.

Old Sandwich Golf Club plays host in 2022 for the fourth time since 2010. Notable alumni who competed in the Wyndham Cup at Old Sandwich include two-time Major champion Collin Morikawa, 15-time PGA TOUR champion Justin Thomas, NCAA Women's Division 1 Individual golf champions Rose Zhang and Rachel Heck, and 4-time PGA TOUR winner Sam Burns.

The West outright captured eight of the ten morning foursome matches. The largest margin of victory came in match six where Augusta National Women's Amateur Champion Anna Davis of Spring Valley, California, and Princeton University letter of intent signee, Catherine Rao of Camarillo, California, won 5 & 4 against Thienna Huynh of Lilburn, Georgia, and Sydney Hackett of Ashburn, Virginia.

The ladies of the East snagged two of the morning foursome match points. Sara Im of Duluth, Georgia, and Katie Li of Basking Ridge, New Jersey, beat Leigh Chien of Irvine, California, and Jasmine Koo of Cerritos, California, 1-up in match eight. Bailey Shoemaker of Dade City, Florida, and Bridget Ma of Orlando, Florida, won the final match of the morning 2 & 1 against Sophie Zhang-Murphy of Saratoga, California, and Rianne Malixi of San Bernardino, California.

The afternoon session began at 1:30 p.m. with mixed foursomes. The East got a point on the board early when PJ Maybank of Cheboygan, Michigan, and Macy Pate of Winston Salem, North Carolina, combined for a 3 & 2 win over Jackson Koivun and Kiara Romero, both of San Jose, California.

The West fired back winning the next two matches. Keaton Vo of Austin, Texas, and Jaclyn LaHa of Pleasanton, California, won 3 & 1 against Nicholas Gross of Downingtown, Pennsylvania, and Kiera Bartholomew of Wake Forest, North Carolina. In match three, Jacob Sosa of Austin, Texas, and Kelly Xu of Claremont, California, took down Boyd Owens of Baton Rouge, Louisiana, and Gianna Clemente of Warren, Ohio, 2-up.

Match four ended in a tie between Bryan Lee of Fairfax, Virginia, and Huynh, against Henry Guan of Dallas, Texasm and Malixi.

Match five went to the West bringing their total points to 22.5. Aaron Pounds of The Woodlands, Texas, and Yana Wilson of Henderson, Nevada, won 1-up against Bryan Kim of Brookville, Maryland, and Li.

After day two the West leads the East 22.5 to 7.5. The West needs three points tomorrow to clinch the cup for the 17th time.

Day three of competition at the 32nd Wyndham Cup will feature 20 singles matches between the East and West. Morning tee times begin at 7:30 a.m. and run through 10:40 a.m.
