BRASELTON, Ga. - The American Junior Golf Association will return to the state of Utah and host the AJGA Salt Lake City Junior. The event is set to host 96 of the world’s top junior golfers (ages 12-19) from Monday, July 31, to Thursday, August 3, 2023, at Glenmoor Golf Club. This event will mark the first AJGA event at Glenmoor Golf Club. This three-year partnership with Glenmoor Golf Club and Salt Lake City Sports will include an annual event during the calendar years of 2023 through 2025.

“Sports Salt Lake is tremendously excited to have an opportunity to work with AJGA on bringing a championship to Salt Lake in 2023 and beyond,” said Clay Partain, Executive Director of Sports Salt Lake. “This would not have been possible without the community effort and support by South Valley Chamber and Glenmoor Golf Club. The incoming players and spectators will get a chance to enjoy our brand new $4 billion Salt Lake City International Airport, and the robust amenities that our vibrant destination offers.”

The AJGA Salt Lake City Junior will feature a qualifier, Junior-Am Fundraising event, official practice round and 54-hole stroke play championship for boys and girls ages 12 to 19.

The qualifier will be hosted on Sunday, July 30 at Glenmoor Golf Club. The AJGA Qualifier Series is one of the main ways players get their start with the AJGA. This one day 18-hole tournament, held before the start of AJGA Salt Lake City Junior, gives 78 players an opportunity to "play their way in" to each coinciding tournament and earn PBE status for a future event. Typically, 10% of boys in an AJGA Qualifier and 10% of girls in an AJGA Qualifier will move on to play in the corresponding tournament. The exact number of spots will be posted at AJGA Qualifier registration.

On Monday, July 31, the event will host a Junior-Am fundraising event and official practice round. The Junior-Am fundraising event will allow local community members an opportunity to play with a top ranked junior playing in the AJGA Salt Lake City Junior. Tournament proceeds will benefit local charity of choice, Special Olympics Utah, and AJGA’s Foundation- Achieving Competitive Excellence Grant Program. To participate in this event and for more information, please reach out to Darci Olsen, darciolsen@pga.com , or Patrick Cansfield, pcansfield@ajga.org .

First round tee times are sent from 7:30 a.m. – 12:40 p.m. off No. 1 on Tuesday, August 1. The awards ceremony will take place on Thursday, August 3, after the conclusion of final-round play.

“It has been over 10 years since the AJGA has been in the beautiful state of Utah,” said Director of Business Development, Patrick Cansfield. “We are so excited to bring more playing opportunities to junior golfers on the west coast, and it couldn’t be done without the support of Glenmoor Golf Club and Sports Salt Lake. We are looking forward to working with the local team at Sports Salt Lake and Glenmoor Golf Club to create a memorable experience for all involved.”

"Glenmoor is so excited to be the host site for AJGA this year,” said PGA Head Golf Professional, Darci Olsen. “This is where I learned as a junior and now, I get to reap the benefits of being the Head Golf Professional. I love to be involved in Junior golf and to see our youth learning life skills and hard work. But to see the level of both girls and boys we have here in the state of Utah far exceeds what I ever anticipated. Having an AJGA event is an additional way to give our youth here in Utah another experience and opportunity to compete at a high level. This event gets me excited, and I can't wait to watch!"

Glenmoor Golf Club is located at 9800 S 4800 W, South Jordan, Utah, 84095. Guests are welcome to attend the AJGA Salt Lake City Junior. Admission to the AJGA tournament is free.

The AJGA is looking for local supporters to play in the junior-am fundraising event and increase the charitable impact associated with the AJGA Salt Lake City Junior. If you are interested in the unique opportunity to play with a top-ranked junior golfer, or supporting the event, please contact Patrick Cansfield - pcansfield@ajga.org .
