We are excited and honored to be recognized as AJGA’s 2023 Open Tournament of the Year. Although it's not why we support the AJGA, it's great to hear that we are on the right track in providing a place where these talented young golfers can shine.
The Open Tournament of the Year award annually recognizes a tournament that goes above and beyond on overall tournament experience from hospitality, volunteers and sponsors involvement to impact on the community and more.
This tournament has a rich history at other golf clubs in the Atlanta area, so it is especially rewarding to receive this recognition after only our first year hosting the tournament at the new Planterra Club. AJGA gave our club members, sponsors, volunteers, the Invited Clubs team and the tournament committee a wonderful opportunity to come together in 2023 and host this memorable event at Planterra Club.
The AJGA schedule features more than 50 Open championships, including tournaments supported by Mizuno and Under Armour, as well as events hosted by Jordan Spieth, Justin Thomas, Harold Varner III and Patrick Reed to name a few.
In 2023, the AJGA Atlanta Classic presented by UHY contributed over $56,000 to charity. The charities impacted by the tournament’s fundraising include the Fayette Fire Foundation and the Liberty National ACE Grant Program.
We are grateful for the chance to showcase the Fayette County community and give back to two great charities, the Liberty National ACE Grant and the Fayette Fire Foundation. “We look forward to doing it again in 2024!
As the Junior-Am sponsor, Chick-fil-A hosted a breakfast and lunch for the juniors. The course and juniors participating in the event hosted a golf clinic that was sponsored by Southern Company, where they gave lessons to young golfers in the area. During this event, TCBY donated ice cream to all juniors, youth members and parents participating.
This event was supported by a large volunteer group led by Duncan Harding, who served as the volunteer chair. During the tournament, the volunteers assisted with shuttling players, helped man timing stations, aided with registration and stocked coolers throughout the week.
The experience of the AJGA Atlanta Classic presented by UHY can best be described as exceptional. Our tournament chair, Jeff Holt, does a tremendous job in recruiting committee members to help with the task as well as finding support within the community. This allows us to offer the best experience for the juniors.
The 2023 event at Planterra Golf Club featured an excellent finish with Georgia native, Pierce Adamson, claiming his second career AJGA victory with a 10-under-par finish. Siuue Wu of Reunion, Florida, defended her title in the Girls Division, recording a 10-under-par 54-hole total and winning by nine shots.
