West Point, Miss. - After the first round of competition, Logan Reilly of Lovettsville, Virginia, leads the way after shooting an 8-under-par 64 at the Team TaylorMade Invitational at Old Waverly Golf Club.
Conditions for the first round were ideal with warm temperatures and no wind. Players took advantage of the prime scoring conditions as 36 players shot under par during the first round.
This is the fourth playing of the Team TaylorMade Invitational and features some of the most talented junior golfers in the world. The event is supported by AJGA Global Sponsor TaylorMade Golf and moves annually to different venues throughout the country.
Leading the way, Reilly started on No. 1 with two birdies. He also carded a bogey on No. 3 before adding three more birdies to close the front nine. He played the back nine bogey-free while pouring in four birdies.
The strength of my game today was my wedges... sticking it to eight feet and giving myself a chance at birdies. As long as a have a wedge in my hand, I am going to keep attacking.
Reilly came into the event at No. 29 in the Rolex AJGA Rankings. The Auburn University verbal commit is playing in his second Invitational of 2024 after a top-10 finish at the AJGA Simplify Boys Championship at Carlton Woods in February. He also has two AJGA wins during his junior golf career.
In second place is Chase Kyes of Birmingham, Alabama. Kyes started his round on No. 1 and began with a birdie. He went on to card another birdie, a bogey and an eagle on his front nine. After making the turn, he went bogey-free and carded four more birdies.
Coming into the tournament he was No. 55 in the Rolex AJGA Rankings. the University of Alabama verbal commit was a Rolex Junior All-American in 2023. He has two AJGA wins in his junior golf career.
In a tie for third are...
Parker Severs of Lakewood Ranch, Florida, came into the event at No. 100 in the Rolex AJGA Rankings. He started his round off No. 10 and jumped up the leaderboard with birdies on Nos. 10 and 11. He added two more along with a bogey through his first nine holes. After he made the turn he made eagle on No. 2 and birdied his final two holes to come in at 6-under-par 66.
Severs is verbally committed to the University of Florida and is playing in his second AJGA Invitational. He put together a successful Florida Junior Tour resume and two top-10 AJGA finishes.
Jon Ed Steed of Enterprise, Alabama, also started on No. 10 and began his round quickly with an eagle on No. 10. He would card two birdies through his first nine holes to make the turn at 4-under-par. He carded another birdie on No. 2 and a bogey on No. 6 before finishing his round with back-to-back birdies on Nos. 8 and 9.
Steed came into the event at No. 97 in the Rolex AJGA Rankings. The 2022 Rolex Junior All-American is verbally committed to Vanderbilt University and comes into the event off a top-10 finish at the AJGA Junior at Innisbrook in March. He has one AJGA win which came at the AJGA Atlanta Classic presented by UHY in 2022.
Edan Cui of Atherton, California, started on No. 1 and came out of the gate hot with birdies on four of his first five holes. He would card a bogey on No. 9 before making the turn and pouring in four more birdies on the back and a bogey on No. 17.
Cui came into the event at No. 56 in the Rolex AJGA Rankings. The Stanford verbal commit was a member of the AJGA Junior All-Star Team in 2021 and 2022. This is his first AJGA event of 2024 after three AJGA tournament wins over his career.
Second-round tee times begin Sunday at 8 a.m. off Nos. 1 and 10.
