The Woodlands, Texas — Cameron Kuchar of St. Simons Island, Georgia, extended his lead during the second round of the AJGA Simplify Boys Championship at Carlton Woods, reaching 11-under-par 133 as play wrapped up Sunday. Kuchar followed his opening 6-under-66 with another strong effort, shooting 5-under-par 67 for the round. He has yet to make a bogey over the two days of competition, allowing him to maintain control of the top spot heading into Monday’s final round.
I was able to get up and down when I needed to and hit a couple of shots to a foot for birdies, so everything seemed to be working. I've always had a pretty good short game and sometimes the chips go in and sometimes they don't. Thankfully this week they have gone in for me.
Conditions remained steady throughout the afternoon with mild temperatures but heavy winds, allowing players to make runs up the leaderboard on the Fazio Championship Course. The event, first played in 1987 and hosted annually at Carlton Woods since 2009, continues its tradition as one of the most competitive stops on the AJGA schedule.
Sitting four shots back in second place is Grayson Baucom of Hickory, North Carolina. Baucom shot a 5-under-par 67 to move into his position in the final group on Monday.
In third is defending champion Miles Russell of Jacksonville Beach, Florida, at 6-under-par 138. Russell turned in a 4-under-par 68, one of the low scores of the day.
In fourth place at 5-under-par 139 is Giuseppe Puebla of Royal Palm Beach, Florida, who posted a 4-under-par 68 to continue his climb up the board.
A cluster of players sit at 4-under-par 140 in T5, including Connor Wolfe and Jackson Ormond, each carding steady rounds of 2-under-par 70 to stay within striking distance heading into the final round.
Additional movement came from Drake Harvey, who climbed to 2-under-par after firing a second‑round 4-under-par 68 to move him into T9.
Final‑round play begins Monday morning off Nos. 1 and 10 as Kuchar looks to finish off a wire‑to‑wire victory at Carlton Woods.
