Scotty Cameron Moment

My Scotty Cameron Moment

Each week, the AJGA honors the boy and girl junior golfers who shoot the lowest round during the final tournament round. Each of these players will be presented with one of this year's new Scotty Cameron putter covers in silver or gold. In this feature, we will hear from the players each week who take home this honor and what helped them get there.

Medicus Preseason Junior at Texarkana

“It was actually the worse shot of my round. It came on the par-3 second hole. I hit a 4-iron from the tee into the woods. I was able to recover and make double-bogey. It made me more driven and motivated to play well for the rest of the round,” said Colin Pratt of Santa Fe, N.M., whose final-round 72 tied for the day’s lowest round at the Medicus Preseason Junior at Texarkana.

“I hit a 5-iron that caught the slope on the right. I made a 50-foot putt for birdie to take me from 1-over-par to even-par. The putt started uphill then broke downhill from right to left. I was excited and got my adrenaline going,” said Taylor Moore of Edmond, Okla., whose birdie on the par-3 17th hole carried him to a final-round 72 at the Medicus Preseason Junior at Texarkana.

AJGA Cliffs Championship

“On the third hole, I hit my approach shot into the front bunker," said Ryan Thornton of Chattanooga, Tenn, after his final-round 69 at The Cliffs at Keowee Falls. "I really hadn’t chipped or putted well all week, but my bunker shot came out well, rolled up to about three feet and I made the putt. That up-and-down was really a big confidence booster after a rough start around the greens.”

“On the par-3 11th, I hit my 7-iron in to three and a half feet. I rolled the putt in for a big birdie, which got me to 3-under-par on the day and only three shots behind the leader,” said Logan Harrell of Huntersville, N.C. His 69 vaulted him into second place with a 72-69––141 tournament total.

“My best part of the round was my birdie on the second hole," said AJGA Cliffs Championship Champion Annie Park of Levittown, N.Y., who posted a final-round 67 "I thought about the line and the speed. I knew the birdie would come. I didn’t worry about it. Then I thought, ‘Wow!’ my first birdie.”

What is Leadership Links?

Leadership Links is a new program whereby the AJGA is able to further its mission to help develop young men and women by teaching charitable giving skills and service-oriented practices at an early age.
