This spring, the AJGA hired 32 spring interns and two tournament assistants to run events across the country. Separated into four teams, each intern traveled for eight weeks straight, going from tournament to tournament. Each team consisted of two communications interns and six operations interns. Communications interns are responsible for a multitude of media related duties. From executing social media plans to conducting interviews, the communications internship provides a glimpse into many sides of sports communications. Communications interns also assist in tournament set-up, breakdown and on-course rules officiating.
This internship has shown me that I have this interest in public and media relations. You never really know until you do it, and this internship really showed me that it wasn't just an interest - it's something that I am good at. Going into the post-graduation life and knowing that what I am doing now is something that I really like to do is really great. The support from the full-time staff has been really helpful in developing me as a communications intern.
The operations internship revolves around general tournament set-up, execution, rules officiating and break-down. Operations interns earn the process of what it takes to run a golf event and earn skills such as public speaking and customer service.
This internship experience has been amazing because I have been able to travel to different cities and states and I've been apart of a team that comes from all around the country. I have had countless opportunities to learn and grow in the sport of golf, which I have truly come to admire.
The four teams covered events all over the country this spring. They were able to meet hosts such as Will Lowery and K.J. Choi, and activated numerous sponsors. Eight weeks, 32 events, 18,280 miles and countless moments later, the 2024 Spring intern class has successfully completed one of the most unique internships out there!
