The #AJGAInternship is the backbone of the AJGA. In addition to teaching interns how to run national junior golf tournaments, the internship provides the tools they'll need to launch their careers, from networking and marketing to sponsor relations and customer service. The #AJGAInternship is the ultimate springboard into a career in the golf or sports industries, as well as many others.

We received more than 1,700 applications for our traveling internships this year, with the top-125 summer candidates selected for the first-ever Virtual Intern Recruiting Weekend (IRW) taking place next week. In the past, IRW has taken place at our Headquarters in Braselton, Georgia, but due to the pandemic, we're going virtual this year!

In honor of the first Virtual IRW, let's look back at five #AJGAInternship alumni who found full-time jobs in and out of the sports world:

1. Josele Diaz
Intern Year: Summer 2020
Intern Position: Traveling Communications & Operations
Current Job: Assistant General Manager at Teravista Golf Club

"I am now the Assistant General Manager at Teravista Golf Club in Round Rock, Texas. I help with the day-to-day duties of golf course operations and I am directly in charge of tournament sales for the golf club. I got the job by searching for golf positions in cities that I prefer. I found the golf management company here in Austin and I sent the owner a LinkedIn message. He responded to me and asked me to send him a copy of my resume. We scheduled a phone interview later that week. While on the phone with him, he told me that he saw the AJGA on my resume and he shot me to the top of his list. It's cool to see the direct results of the hard work put into the internship program, especially during the summer of COVID-19. Safe to say that the hours and miles put in this summer were well worth it to start my career."

2. Reann Huber
Intern Year: Summer 2020
Intern Position: Traveling Communications
Current Job: Communications Coordinator at the Southern Texas PGA

"Interning with the AJGA this past summer was probably one of the best opportunities I could have had to get into the career I have always wanted. The AJGA provided me with resources and connections that lead me to applying to be a Communications Coordinator at the Southern Texas PGA. My current role there is very similar to what I did as a Communications Intern with the AJGA and I’m very thankful that I was able to build my knowledge of the golf industry and my skills in sports communication."

3. Kevin Kennedy
Intern Year: Summer 2020
Intern Position: Traveling Communications
Current Position: Digital Content Producer at PGA TOUR Champions

"The AJGA provided the tools and the platform to be creative, along with constructive coaching that gave me the confidence to try new things and make mistakes. Through this freedom I was able to develop my thinking, process, organization and technical skills. Creating real content expanded my work portfolio and gave me an edge in the job market. The internship also took me places in the country I’d never thought I’d go. The team I traveled with will be my friends for life. I wouldn’t be where I am today without the AJGA."

4. Hunter Hargrove
Intern Year: Summer 2020
Intern Position: Traveling Operations
Current Position: Coordinator of All American Tour Operations at Northern Texas PGA

“The American Junior Golf Association has prepared me to get to this point in my life by expressing what it truly means to be a problem solver and how a leader needs to be portrayed on an off the course. This organization gave me new tools, friendships, and further knowledge to be more successful in how I handle my future career. Thank you AJGA.”

5. Olivia Carswell
Intern Year: Summer 2019
Intern Position: Traveling Communications
Current Position: Account Coordinator at Alison South Marketing Group

"I work as an Account Coordinator in my hometown of Augusta, GA. I work with a variety of different clients and help manage all of their marketing and PR needs. The AJGA Internship taught me so much! From working in a team based environment, to creating basic graphic design artwork needed for ads, or managing numerous social media accounts, I am now able to confidently and successfully wear multiple hats for the company! I owe it all to AJGA for teaching me so many different personal and professional skills that I can use today!"
