Malixi leads by one stroke after 18-holes

After earning Qualifier Medalist honors Sunday, Rianne Malixi of (Philippines) San Bernardino, California, was able to once again shoot the low round in the Girls Division with a 5-under-par 67. Starting off hole No. 1, Malixi played her front nine at 3-under-par with birdies on hole Nos. 1, 4 and 8. She would finish her day with a total of six birdies and one bogey.

Bridget O'Keefe of Palo Alto, California, and Xin (Cindy) Kou of (China) Valencia, California, round out the top-3. O'Keefe started her day with an even par 36 on her first nine holes, but after an eagle on No.10 and a birdie on No. 11 she was able to set herself up for a strong finish ultimately ending with a 4-under-par 68. Kou was steady with just four birdies to just one bogey to be two off the lead with a 3-under-par 69 entering the second round.

In the Boys Division, three golfers sit tied in first place at 4-under-par 68. Defending champion Connor Williams of Escondido, California, carded six birdies on his round, including three consecutive on holes No. 11, 12 and 13. Ryan Abuan of Temecula, California, had bogeys on holes No. 5 and 10, but followed with back-to-back birdies both times. Taewoo Yu of (South Korea) Murrieta, California, was able to shoot a 3-under-par 33 on his back nine to put himself atop the leaderboard.

Three golfers also sit tied for fourth. Tyler Pride of Palm Desert, California, Calder Overfelt of Newport Beach, California, and Joey Hayden Dublin, California, all are one off the lead following opening rounds of 3-under-par 69.
